QUEPEM: Maina Sports Club carved out a solitary goal victory against Guirdolim Club to emerge champion of the Fr Agnelo youth inter-village football tournament organised by Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda, at Panchayat ground, Avedem-Quepem, recently.
The all-important goal was scored in the 20th minute of the second session by Caetano Viegas.
Both the team dished out excellent football to keep the large crowd on their toes.
The final was inaugurated by Fr Agnelo Fernandes, Parish Priest of Paroda Church. Hazel Fernandes, Zilla Panchayat member. Krishna Gauns Dessai, Dy. Sarpanch of Village Panchayat of Avedem-Cotombi-Chaify was the guest of honour and gave away the prizes.
The winners received Rs 40,000 while the runners-up bagged Rs 30,000.
Earlier the president of the club Francisco Fernandes welcomed the gathering and sports secretary Francisco D’ Costa proposed the vote of thanks.
