Holy Spirit Parish Youth emerge champions

NAVELIM: Holy Spirit Parish Youth, Margao defeated Mapusa Parish Youth 4-3 via the tie-breaker to emerge champions in the annual All-Goa youth football tournament, organised by the Diocesan Youth Centre in collaboration with John Paul Foundation for Sports-Goa, at Navelim church ground, recently.

NAVELIM: Holy Spirit Parish Youth, Margao defeated Mapusa Parish Youth 4-3 via the tie-breaker to emerge champions in the annual All-Goa youth football tournament, organised by the Diocesan Youth Centre in collaboration with John Paul Foundation for Sports-Goa, at Navelim church ground, recently.
The tournament which was played in a league format and aimed at building a spirit of fellowship and love through the medium of sports which was brought out through the initial session given to the players and the momentum was kept throughout the day by a small prayer before every match.
Mapusa Parish Youth knocked out Arambol Parish Youth to set up a clash with Holy Spirit Parish Youth who earlier defeated Holy Trinity, Benaulim via the tie-breaker. 
In the head-to-head battle between the titans of the tournament neither could break the deadlock in the regulation time. Finally Holy Spirit, Margao prevailed over Mapusa 4-3 in the tie-breaker, to emerge champions.
On the other hand, in the three-a-side tie-breaker competition girls from Taleigao were the well deserved winners while the Holy Trinity girls from Benaulim bagged the Runners up trophy.
Earlier, every deanery organised a tournament wherein the winners qualified for the All Goa Youth football tournament. The teams that qualified from their respective deaneries were: Calangute, Paroda, Velim, Salvador de Mundo, Holy Trinity(Benaulim), Chicalim, Verna, Mapusa, Arambol,  Holy Sirit(Margao), Agonda, Taleigao and Anjuna.
The guest for the evening, Fr Jose Roque Gonsalves and Fr Aquileo Gomes gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up of both the events.
