CURTORIM: Vasco Veterans defeated Curtorim Veterans by a solitary goal to clinch the Curtorim Veterans Trophy, at DYSA Curtorim ground, on Sunday.
In a well contested final both the teams dished a good brand of football.
The first five minutes saw Vasco Veterans dominating with front line moves through Vishant Pednekar and Alex Alvares missing two sitters for their team in the 2nd and 4th minutes respectively.
Curtorim Veterans made their presence feel with Jimmy D’Costa who sent a well measured cross to Seby Faleiro however his header missed the net of Vasco in the 5th minute.
The deadlock was broken in the 12th minute through Alex Cardozo of a fine connect of Vishant Pednekar whose powerful header, which brushed the hands of Glorio D’Mello goalkeeper of Curtorim and crashed into the nets of Curtorim Veterans.
Roque Carneiro of Curtorim later missed chances to score in the 13th and 15th minutes as his shots were saved by Camilo Barretto goalkeeper of Vasco on both occasions.
The winners were awarded Rs. 35,000 plus trophy while the runners-up bagged Rs. 25,000 plus trophy
Fr Luis Pinto, assistant parish priest, St Alex Church, Curtorim was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Xavier Vas, Arnaldo Costa, ex-president of Curtorim Gymkhana, Dionizio Sardinha, other dignitaries and club officials.
Valentino Sequeira welcomed, Jimmy Costa introduced the players to the guests and Joe Vas proposed vote of thanks.
