PONDA: Manovikas English High School, Margao and A J D Almeida High School, Ponda emerged champions in the U-17 South District Boys and Girls Inter-School Chess Tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), at the multipurpose indoor hall, Fatorda, respectively.
In the boys’ category, Manovikas High School outsmarted Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s High School, Mormugao with 9.5 points. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s HS secured second spot while in the girls’ section, A J D Almeida High School emerged winner with 10 points while Bhatikar Model HS secured the second place.

Ankit Shetty, Sairaj Vernekar, Vicente Fernandez, Sagar Shetty and Sanket Shirodkar represented the Manovikas School while Netra Savaikar, Srilaxmi, Vedanshi Sharma, Moumita Naskar, Nidhi Gaude represented Almeida School. All the winners and runners-up schools in both the sections are now qualified for the State championship.
