MAPUSA: Salgaocar Juniors managed to hold St. Anthony’s SC Marna in a goalless draw in a GFA’s First Division match at Guirim ground, here on Monday.
In the 27th minute, Marna almost conceded a self goal from a misclearance by defender Kashiram Pomburphekar which, however, sailed over their crossbar.

Marna attacked the rival citadel with Saideep Pomburphekar essaying two crosses, but their strikers failed to make use of these. Later, Alesh Sawant saw his header travel just overthe crossbar.
Marna had yet another chance, but Salgaocar’s custodian Rakesh Rathod brought off a brilliant save, blocking a hot blooded shot from close by Sadanand Dabolkar.
On resumption, Marna came close to scoring on three occasions but Salgaocar’s custodian Rakesh halted a 25-yard stinging shot from Videsh Sawant. Minutes later, the goalkeeper flung to his left and pushed the ball for a corner from a well-executed free kick by Alesh Sawant. From the resultant corner, a fierce header by Sadanand Dabolkar was blocked on the goalline by Salgaocar’s Under-20 Edson Souza.
In the added time, a weak shot by Michael Dias was easily collected by Marna’s custodian Jordon Fernandes.
At Duler stadium, Mapusa, St. Savio’s SC registered a hard fought 2-1 win over Dunes SC. St. Savio’s struck a goal in each session of play through Jovito Fernandes (17th) and Namresh Kundaikar (95th), while Shashank Ashwekar (29th) scored for Dunes.
At Salvador do Mundo ground, Candolim SC managed to hold Geno FC to a 2-2 draw. All goals came in the second session.
Shankar Shetye and Clinton Niasso scored for Candolim. Geno scored through Rohan Pednekar and Krishna Gawas.
