MARGAO: Mount Mary High School, Chinchinim prevailed over Assumpta Convent High School, Sarzora 5-4 via the tie-breaker to clinch Chinchinim Villagers School Cup football tournament organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at church ground, Chinchinim on Thursday.
Mount Mary High School led 1-0 at half time.
In an absorbing encounter, both the teams adopted an aggressive approach. However, Mount Mary slowly took over the control and trouble the rival defence with sporadic raids. Denson Fernandes broke the deadlock when he punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish.
Stung by the setback, Assumpta Convent tired their best to neutralised the lead but rival defenders were too strong in thwarting the rival attacks.
Crossing over, Assumpta Convent were a transformed side with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under pressure.
However, it was Rishikesh who doubled the lead.
Down by 0-2, Assumpta Convent fought gallantly and cancelled the lead through the boots of Nigel who scored a brace. After couple of misses, Nigel scored the precious equalizer to put his team on equal terms.
At the end of regulation time the score was 2-2 draw.
In the resultant penalty shoot out, Denson, Jolan and Darloy converted for Mount Mary while Cleine and Litzans scored for Assumpta Convent.
Chief guest Fr Jose Antonio Da Costa, parish priest of Our Lady of Hope Church Chinchinim and guests of honour Catao Fernandes, Teotonio Pinto, ex-footballers and Velim MLA Benjamin Silva gave away the prizes.
The individual prizes awarded were: First scorer of the final Denson Fernandes (Mount Mary), Best defender Kane Dias (Mount Mary), Best half Chadel Fernandes (Assumpta), Best forward Akshay Konkre and Best goalkeeper Venlord gracious.
