Nagoa pip Oratory, enter finals
HERALD REPORTER
VASCO, JUNE 22
Nagoa Sporting Club, Bardez, stormed into the finals of NRB Group 37th Bandodkar Memorial Soccer Tournament organized by Baina Sports Club shooting out Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 5-2 in the tie-breaker at MPT ground here on Tuesday.
The teams were level 1-1 at the end of regulation time after a barren first half. Don Bosco lads shot into the lead in the 40th minute when prolific Valen Silva sent in a powerful try after accepting a pass from Wilson Dias from the right flank. There was nothing that Nandan Simepuruskar of the Nagoa keeper, who was later adjudged man-of-the match, could do.
Five minutes from end, a Stanley Coutinho – Saish Palyekar move saw Adnan Baig being tripped outside the box. Off the resultant free kick taken by Raghuvir Salgaocar, Adnan shot home from close to equalize for Nagoa.
Vincent Barbosa, Francis Andrade and Wilson Dias were erratic, missing sitters which ultimately led to Fatorda’s downfall.
In the tie-breaker, Nagoa’s Stanley Coutinho, Lourenco Rodrigues, Gourish Naik and Saish Palyekar were successful while Girish Naik shot over. For Don Bosco Oratory, Mahadev Talwar and Ashley Araujo could convert but Wilson Dias and Valente Silva’s kicks were beautifully saved by Nandan Simepuruskar who was awarded the man-of-the match prize by Dayanand Rane of Gomantak, who was the chief guest.
Referee Inacio Rodrigues flashed the yellow card to Oratory’s Mahadev Talwar for handling the ball and Savio Quadros for rough tackle. Gaurish Naik of Nagoa Sporting was booked for dangerous tackle.
Incidentally, with the exit of Don Bosco team it will be all-North Goa final.
