MARGAO: Nuvem Sports Club defeated United Boys, Dando-Colva 2-1 to romp into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Eslinda Alemao memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by Navelim Villagers Union, at Sinquetim ground, Navelim, Friday.
Nuvem Sports Club led 2-0 at the break. Nuvem held the upper hand in the opening session and attacked with a lot more intent and purpose, not allowing their rivals any space to penetrate inside the penalty box.
Neves Noronha broke the deadlock in the very 2nd minute when he punished the rival goalkeeper with deft placement. The early lead boosted the morale of the players as they piled on the pressure and trouble the rival defence with sporadic raids.
Rojef Colaco increased the tally late in the first half when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Post resumption, Nuvem continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and fired couple of pot shots but either it miss the mark narrowly or went straight into the hands of Colva goalkeeper.
With time running out, United Boys and went all out and reduced the margin when Ryan Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with neat finish.
