Police edge past St Savio SC

MAPUSA, MARCH 25 Goa Police overcame St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 2-1 in a GFA Second Division Inter-Zonal play-off match, at Duler stadium, here, on Thursday. Margao Sports Club leads the table with 6 points while Goa Police and Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim have 3 points respectively. St Savio are yet to open their account.

Goa Police overcame St Savio Sports Club, Calangute 2-1 in a GFA Second Division Inter-Zonal play-off match, at Duler stadium, here, on Thursday.
Margao Sports Club leads the table with 6 points while Goa Police and Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim have 3 points respectively. St Savio are yet to open their account.
Police went into the lead in the 14th minute when Manoj Homkande slotted past the rushing St Savio goalkeeper Francisco Mascarenhas.
Three minutes later, Bhanudas Raval fired from close range to double the lead for Police.
St Savio’s Samir Naik reduced the margin in the 38th minute. Samir’s 25-yard free-kick drifted over the wall and curled into the top corner of the net which surprised the rival custodian. Moments later St Savio had the chance to equalise but Joseph Noronha’s shot hit the bar.
Early in the second half, St Savio brought in Diego Dias to add some punch to the. In the 60th minute an attempt by Joseph was brilliantly saved by the rival custodian Rupesh.
St Savio went all-out for the equaliser in the dying minutes but were unable to get past the stubborn Police defence.  
Police’s Kishor Palkar took a long range try but the ball was saved by Francisco. Later, Police substitute Sudesh Kerkar’s attempt went wide.
