PANJIM: PVC Parra and Bidesh XI Sports Club registered wins in their respective encounters of the Third Edition of the Goa Football Association- Vedanta Women’s League played on Wednesday.
PVC Parra defeated Churchill Brothers 2-1 at Sirsaim ground, while Bidesh XI registered a solitary goal win over Albert Developers at Assonora ground.
Churchill Brothers SC took an early lead at Sirsaim through Tercy Pinto in the second minute of the game after an error from opposition goalkeeper Prithi. PVC Parra’s Anoushka troubled the opposition goalkeeper to level the scoreline. PVC scored from a counter-attack after Churchill Brothers keeper Rima saved a shot from close range but conceded on the rebound in the 8th minute.
Churchill Brothers forward Joizima made dangerous runs through PVC defense to trouble the keeper in the first quarter of the game. Joizima had a chance in the 17th minute, one on one against the keeper but she decided to chip the ball way over the goal post.
The first half witnessed a good battle in the midfield as both teams kept possession.
PVC won a free-kick in a dangerous area in the opposition half and Stessi Cardozo stepped up to deliver from the free-kick. The free-kick was sublime but was saved brilliantly by keeper Rima Gadekar.
Churchill Brothers gained momentum back in the second half as they displayed a good spell of attacking prowess.
Namita and Joizima made darting runs forward to trouble the PVC backline. Churchill Brothers midfielder Tercy Pinto delivered pinpoint lob through pass to release the strikers forward.
It was only until the 65th minute when Churchill Brothers conceded a penalty. Joyvi Fernandes went down inside the penalty box after a tackle from behind from a rival defender. PVC defender Malvita stepped up to take the penalty and scored after placing the ball on the bottom left side of the net.
Meanwhile, at Assonora Ground, Bidesh XI dominated the game against Albert Developers throughout the 90 minutes but lacked in the final third. What looked like a goalless draw at the end of 90 minutes, Bidesh XI Ansiva Vaz scored in injury time (90+2).
The ball was crossed from the right-wing and into the danger area but wasn’t dealt with by any player. Ansiva scored after taking a shot from close range to steal all three points for Bidesh XI.
