MARGAO: Hosts Raia Sporting Club blanked St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim 3-1 to enter the semi-finals of All-Goa 42nd Custodio memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Raia Sporting Club at Manora ground, Raia, Friday. Raia led 2-0 at the lemon break.
In an exciting encounter, the first session saw Raia Sporting Club outplaying their opponents with enterprising soccer. St Anthony’s were on the back-foot throughout the session as they lacked creativity in the midfield.
Raia surged ahead in the 10th minute when Sheldon D’Souza punished the rival goalkeeper with a deft placement off a Anthony Fernandes pass.
Spurred by the early success, Raia intensified their attacks and doubled the lead in the 25th minute when Remedious Pango beat the rival goalkeeper with a rasping shot off a Joston Barbosa pass.
Post resumption, Raia continued in the same vein with their forwards harassing the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Joston Barbosa increased the tally in the 47th minute off a pass from Wilfred Gomes.
St Anthony’s managed to pull one back through Joran Almeida, who slotted past the rival goalkeeper late in the second half.
