VASCO: Salgaocar FC humbled Guardian Angel SC by a 4-1 win in the GFA’s Goa Professional League match played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Friday.
Salgaocar FC are now four points clear from the second placed Dempo Sports Club with 39 points of 16 matches while Guardian Angel SC are placed 7th on the table with 21 points of 15 matches.
At halftime the winners led by a 3-0 margin with Mackroy Peixoto and Kamo Bayi Stephane scoring for the Green Brigades.
Salgaocar dominated the first half and tried to seal the fate of the match in the first half itself, they showed that they meant business and shot into the lead in the early minutes of the match.
It was Mackroy Peixoto who opened the account for the Green Brigade with sublime finish in the 20th minute as he twisted and turned in the box beating both defenders and the keeper to shoot home the ball and give his team the desired lead.
Kamo Bayi Stephane scored twice in the 36th and 37th minutes respectively with very well placed shots beyond the keepers reach to give Salgacar FC a 3-0 margin in the first half itself.
Guardian Angel SC were resilient and tried to find the net atleast once before the breather however the Salgaocar FC colts were strong in defending their fortress as they tackled shrewdly to keep the Guardian Angel SC strikers at bay.
Post resumption, The Green Brigade came and didn’t push hard enough to score a goal however they controlled the ball and dominated the game play early in the half while the visitors tried hard to get a goal or two past the table toppers.
Guardian Angel SC were finally rewarded with a spot kick after Salgaocar FC keeper Naveen Kumar brought down Guardian Angel striker in the box. Mickey of Guardian Angel SC stepped up and made no mistake as he calmly slotted the ball past the rival keeper to keep hopes alive for his side.
With all the Guardian Angel SC players going all in to find a goal to try and make a comeback Salgaocar FC played this to their advantage as they made a counter move through Samson Pereira who ran with ball down the flank and played a brilliant one-two with Aslon Oliviera and placed the ball beautifully into the far corner wrapping up the match with a 4-1 score line.
