Salgaocar Juniors go down in semi-finals to Mohun Bagan

PANJIM: Salgaocar Football Club U-20 side went down to Mohun Bagan 3-1 in the semi-finals of the Friends Cup football tournament, at Srilata ground, West Bengal, on Tuesday.

All the goals of the game came in the first half through Deep Saha (5’), Rohming Thanga (30’) and Lal Remruata (41’) for Mohun Bagan while Stephen Fernandes (45’+1’) scored the sole goal for the Greens.
The game started with both teams making plays from end to end looking for the back of the net. Mohun Bagan took the lead with an early goal within five minutes. Deep was able to control a throw into the Salgaocar box to send it past custodian Avinash Rao. 
The Greens were looking to grab the equalizer and came close on quite a few occasions. As the game neared the half-hour mark the Kolkata side doubled their lead as Rohming Thanga was left unmarked tapped in a throw-in. 
To make matters worse for the Goan side, Sourabh Patil conceded a penalty which Lal Remruata converted with ease. The Greens saw their first goal in the injury time as Harmanjot Singh’s cross hit one of the Mohun Bagan’s defenders hand to earn a penalty. 
Stephen stepped up and made it look easy as he calmly slotted it past the keeper. The score at the end of the first half was 3-1 in favour of Mohun Bagan.
The second half saw Salgaocar playing a more attacking brand of football. The Greens saw most of the ball possession and making many attempts. The game ended with Mohun Bagan sitting on their comfortable lead and progressing to the final.
