PANJIM: Salgaocar Football Club U-20 side was able to hold Tata Football Academy to a goalless draw in their Friends Cup fixture held at Srilata ground West Bengal, on Monday.
The teams were not able to find the back of the net despite creating a few close chances.
The game kicked-off with great intensity a both teams were looking to get a spot in the semi-finals. Tata FA was able to make the most of the first half as they troubled the Greens custodian Avinash Rao. However, pulling off some fine saves among which was a crucial one-to-one block which Avinash was held on in the first quarter.
The Salgaocar lads in an effort to not be left behind had a close chance but Jason Barbosa’s effort did not materialize.
The Greens striker was handed a well-timed cross from the right by Harmnajot Singh but he was denied by a diving save from the TFA custodian.
The teams remained in a goalless deadlock at half time.
In the second half both teams were not able to make much of a play. Much to the disappointment of the fans neither had a clear shot at the goal as both the defence lines did well to clear the oncoming threats.
The goalless game came to an end not before Stephen Fernandes shot out a through ball from Naro Srestha, much to the frustration of the Salgaocar FC bench.
With this the Goan side advanced into the semi-finals where they will face Mohun Bagan.
