MAPUSA: Saligao United came from a goal down to edge past Parish Youth Nuvem 2-1 and enter the semi-finals of 15th Parish Youth Vagator Cup football at Vagator ground, Thursday. Nuvem led 1-0 at half time.
Nuvem started attackingly and surged ahead in the sixth minute after a long throw-in from Selfano Dias found Parvaraj Joshi, who made his way into the rival territory and fired past the rival custodian.
Saligao tried hard to score the equalizer and finally restored parity in the second session after Vinayak Mulgaonkar earned his team a penalty. The resultant spot-kick was coolly converted by Jose Alvares as he sent Nuvem goalkeeper Francisco Fernandes the wrong way.
In the 50th minute, Clifton D’Souza scored the match-winner for Saligao off a clever pass from Abhijeet Govekar.
Nuvem’s Elvis Pereira was adjudged man-of-the-match.
