Saligao win

A solitary first half goal by Mahesh Rane enabled Saligao United to defeat United Club of Telaulim and enter the quarter-finals of 37th Bandodkar Memorial Football Trophy football tournament organized by Baina Sports Club at MPT ground here on Monday.
The teams went into the attack and in the 20th minute Mahesh Rane of Saligao United sent in a rasping 15-yard try which beat United Club of Telaulim keeper Chandrakant Naik hands down.
Telaulim lads went in the attack and raided the Saligao defence but their forward Jayson Pereira was erratic and shot over from hand-shaking distance. Later, Richard Costa sent a feeble try right into the hands of Clyton Mascarenhas, the Saligao keeper.
After the change of ends, Saligao’s Nestor Dias ground shot missed to be converted by substitute Amit Karande with an open goal with keeper Chandrakant Naik out of place. Towards the end, Telaulim’s Sukhdev Arwade and Berwyn Tellis tries were beautifully saved by Clyton Mascarenhas under the SaligaoUnited bar.
Referee Rohidas Bomkar flashed the yellow card to Domnic Fernandes and Joseph Dias of United Club of Telaulim and Pravin Jadhav of Saligao United for dangerous tackles. Richard Costa of Telaulim was aarded the man-of-the match prize.
