BETALBATIM: Sao Jose de Areal defeated Cuncolim Union 5-3 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the late Joao Francisco and Luiza Pacheco Cup, organised by Betalbatim SC, played at Betalbatim Panchayat ground, on Thursday.
Daulat Dessai the lanky striker of Cuncolim should have netted in the 4th minute but Areal’s Franky Valadres thwarted the latter’s move. On the other end Areal almost scored but Prisco Moura’s shot hit the Cuncolim crossbar and went out of play.
Treny Dias scored for Cuncolim Union in the 14th minute. Cuncolim led 1-0 at the break. Crossing over, Areal came back strongly and scored through Bersal Viegas. However, Areal couldn’t find the match winner despite dominating the second half.
In the resultant tie-breaker Sao Jose de Areal netted through Daryl Costa, Aliston Camilo, Joseph Monteiro and Vishal Fernandes while Bharat Gaonkar and Errin De Souza scored for Cuncolim Union.
Sao Jose de Areal will meet the winners of Rossman Cruz Nagoa-Verna and Varca SC in the quarter-finals on August 9.
