PANJIM: Man-of-the-Match allrounder Sarvesh Veluskar displayed excellent cricketing skills to help Herald Publications register 8-wicket victory over All India Radio (AIR) in the inaugural match of late Vijay Gad inter-media cricket tournament organized by Sports Journalists Association of Goa, at SAG ground, Campal-Panjim, on Wednesday morning.
Herald Publications won the toss and opted to field. All India Radio scored 45 runs losing five wickets in the allotted 10 overs.
Laxmidas Kundaikar 11 was the top scorer. Flavio Lopes 1/4, Aftab Sheikh 1/10, Sarvesh Veluskar 1/6 bowled well for Herald.
Herald Publications in their innings had a smooth sailing and managed to reach the target in 4.4 overs losing two wickets. Sarvesh Veluskar 9, Anant Bakhale 10, Shailesh Zantye n.o. 15 were the top scorers.
In the second match, Goa Doot defeated In Goa. Batting first, In Goa scored 74 runs losing 9 wickets in 10 overs. Krishna Kerkar 14, Kundan 17, Gaurang 13 were the run getters. Vipul Pawar 1-16, Santosh Kubal 2-08, Jagannath 2-12, Pradip Joshi 1-12, Sameer Gawas 1-14 tormented the rival batting lineup.
In reply, Goa Doot scored 75-5 in 9.4 overs. Vipul Pawar 19, Aashish Amonkar 16 batted well. Raj 2-12 and Kiran Borkar 2-9 managed to do some damage to the winners. Vipul Pawar (Goa Doot) was man-of-the-match.
Electronic Media backed out from playing against Tarun Bharat, as a result, SJAG Technical Committee declared Tarun Bharat as the winners.
