RAIA: Churchill Brothers Sports Club got the better of a spirited Guardian Angel Sports Club 1-0 in the Goa Pro League match, at Raia Panchayat ground, here, on Tuesday.
In the fifth minute, Guardian Angel SC forward Meclon Colaco had a glorious opportunity to give his team the lead after being in a one-to-one situation with defender Jose Vaz, who eventually cleared the ball to safety.
Soon, at the other end, Churchill Bros SC had a go but Semson Fernandes’ long ranger sailed inches over.
Finally, The Red Machines surged ahead in the seventh minute as Seriton Fernandes nodded in a rebound from a free-kick taken by Jaison Vales.
Changing over, Guardian Angel SC had their share of chances but lacked creativity in the midfield.
Meclon Colaco came close to scoring in the 49th minute but saw his header go wide after a cross from Austern Fernandes.
Subsequently, Churchill Bros had another go as Nicholas Fernandes tried his luck but the rival keeper, Agnelo Gomes left him frustrated.
