MARGAO: Our Lady of Snows High School, Raia overcame Fr Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna 4-1 via the tie-breaker to emerge Salcete Taluka under-14 Subroto Mukherjee inter-school football champions organized by DSYA at Manora ground, Raia, Thursday. The score was 1-1 at full time.
Our Lady of Snows showed good understanding and played well as a unit. They surged ahead when Rolland Vaz, who picked up the ball from his own half, slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Spurred by the success, Our Lady of Snows increased their pace but could not score due to inept shooting by their forwards.
At the other end, Fr Agnel tried their best to neutralize the lead and had a couple of opportunities but their forwards frittered them away.
Enjoying a 1-0 first half cushion, Our Lady of Snows relaxed after the change of ends. That allowed Fr Agnel the freedom to launch raids at the Raia school goal. Their efforts bore fruit when Shane Estibeiro bulged the net.
The teams went into an attacking mode and went all-out in search of the match-winner but to no avail.
In the tie-breaker, Rolland Vaz, Ebby Fernandes and Cliffton Pereira found the mark for Our Lady of Snows while none converted for Fr Agnel.
Conrad Mendes, headmaster of Fr Agnel Multipurpose HS, Verna was the chief guest and distributed the certificates.
APEO Dattaraya Prabhudessai welcomed while Bevyln Colaco e Rodrigues, TSO, Salcete Taluka proposed the vote of thanks.
