MAPUSA: St Anthony SC, Marna registered a 6-4 win via the tie-breaker over United Sports Club Mardol to advance ahead in the quarter-finals of Anthony & Santana Carvalho Memorial Soccer Cup organised by St.Savio’s Sports Club, at Calangute ground, on Tuesday.
In the 10 minute, St.Anthony’s Sherwin Lobo’s 24-yard free-kick was saved by the USC Mardol keeper Krishna Gawade.
St Anthony took the lead in the 19th minute through Siddhant Shirodkar which was assisted by Sherwin Lobo.
On crossing over, USC Mardol equalised in the 40th minute through Julio Godinho who scored from the penalty spot.
As the match progressed, St Anthony’s Sangam Pednekar’s 25-yard shot hit the crossbar.
In the 65th minute St Anthony SC took the lead through Gaurav Vaigankar as he headed the ball into the net.
Five minutes later, USC equalised through Wayne Rodrigues with a glancing header.
With the match ending in a 2-2 draw, the penalty shoot-out was implemented. St Anthony SC, Marna scored through Sangam, Francis, Claudio and Sherwin while
Clatus and Sidharth netted for United Sports Club Mardol.
