CALANGUTE: Hosts St Savio Sports Club, Calangute rode on a solitary goal by Bruno Coutinho to edge past St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim to move into the quarter-finals of 1st Francisco and Matildinha Egipsy memorial inter-village football tournament at Poriat ground, Calangute, Monday.
Enjoying a slight edge over Marna, Calangute tried hard to score but the Marna defense headed by Dylan frustrated the moves initiated by Sherwin, Agnelo and Bruno.
With time running out in the second session, it looked the game will be decided on penalties but Marna conceded a needless free-kick just outside the danger zone. Bruno’s rasping free-kick curled past the rival wall beating Marna custodian Joseph, much to the delight of the Calangute fans.
