Kidnapping: 8 accused get 4 days police custody

All the eight accused tourists from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who were arrested by the Colva police in the Benaulim minor girl kidnapping case, were remanded to four days police custody on Monday.

MARGAO: All the eight accused tourists from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who were arrested by the Colva police in the Benaulim minor girl kidnapping case, were remanded to four days police custody on Monday.

The eight persons were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao this evening, before they were remanded to four days police custody, informed Colva PI Uttam Raut Dessai.

Meanwhile, the Colva police has registered an offence under sections 143, 147, 148, 427, 332, 333,323, 325, 307 read with 149 of IPC and section  3 of PDPP Act against 15 persons, besides a mob of 1,000 persons, comprising both males and females, for forming unlawful assembly, assaulting suspected persons and the police, damaging government property and forcibly entering the Colva police station.

Police said the 15 accused along with the 1000-strong mob formed unlawful assembly and assaulted Anurag Shukla and Vijay Rawat, both suspects in kidnapping a minor girl, damaged PCR van by pelting stones, glass bottles and mud, further entered Colva police station premises by breaking police cordon and assaulted PC Shrikant S Velip, PC Dattaprasad Gaunekar , PC Ajay Naik, PI Uttam Raut Desai and PSI Tulsidas Naik all of Colva police station.

Velip who suffered a fracture has been operated at Hospicio, Margao, while Gaunekar who suffered head injuries was discharged on Monday after treatment. The alleged accused also damaged a police van, computers and threatened to set the police station on fire. 

The Colva police on a complaint from the victim’s mother arrested Ummar Sheik, Anurag Shukla, Vijay Rawat, Abi Kasliwal, Sarti Pandey, Mayank Pandit, Abishiak Jain and Mohit Jain all from Indore for kidnapping the minor girl. 

Police said the eight arrested youth arrived by train on June 8 and were putting up at a hotel in Colva. On Sunday, June 9, they hired four rent-a-bike scooters and were on their way to Varca when allegedly kidnapped the minor girl who was waiting to go for tuition.

Meanwhile, the police have recorded statement of the victim girl, besides six other witnesses.

The girl also was sent for a medical examination at Hospicio, here. Further investigation in the both cases is in progress.
