MARGAO: St Sebastian Sports Club, Aquem began their campaign in the Salcete Zone Group C GFA Third Division football league on triumphant note as they defeated Mandopa Sports Club 2-1, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday. St Sebastian Sports Club led 2-0 at the break.
St Sebastian started the game on an attacking mode and kept their opponents on the back-foot. St Sebastian broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when striker Melroy Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Spurred by the early success, St Sebastian intensified their attacks and fired couple of pot shots. They doubled the lead in the 39th minute when Naveen Machado beat the rival goalkeeper with a rasping drive.
Post resumption, St Sebastian Sports Club slackened their pace and allowed their opponents to launch barrage of attacks.
In the 52nd minute, Mandopa reduced the deficit when Clive Mascarenhas placed the ball to the far corner of the net.
At Camurlim ground, Group F, Social Cultural Club of Loutolim hammered Youth Club of Manora 3-0 after leading 1-0 at the breather.
Loutolim dominated the game and swarmed all over the penalty area and in the 6th minute when Frazier Noel Cardozo unleashed a stiff shot crashed into the net.
The second sessions continued in same vein with Loutolim enjoying the better ball possessions and exchanges. Hansen Cardozo struck twice in 49th and 84th minute to troop out worthy winners.
At Paroda ground, Group A, Immaculate Conception Sports Club drubbed Guirdolim Sports Club 7-0.
