PANJIM: Tournament favorite Tejas Shevde won the final of the Gadre Gaspar Dias Open 2020 in a thrilling match against Prathamesh Shinde, at the courts of Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias.
With the crowds behind him, Tejas Shevde defended his title in remarkable fashion and came out with his ‘A’ game for the final and won (6-2, 6-0) against Prathamesh Shinde.
The ladies singles category saw Simran Khan take on Nicole Silva in the final. Both women played a great match as Simran overpowered Nicole to win (6-2, 6-4).
In the men’s doubles category, the pairing of Prathamesh Shinde and Sandesh Kurle won comfortably defeating Tejas Shevde and Nathan Chowgule (6-2, 6-4). In the mixed doubles category, Tejas Shevde and Sofie Chowgule took down Rajendra Godinho and Melanie Chowgule in a fiercely fought match (4-3, 4-1).
The finals of the U-16 boys category saw Ankit Bhateja triumphant over Dattaraj Naik winning (4-1, 4-0) while in the girls U-16 category, Vara Eshwar won against Simran Bundela (3-4,4-3,10-6).
In the U- 12 boys category, Arav Eshwar won the final defeating Punit Phadte (4-3, 4-3) while in the girls category, Vara Eshwar defeated Vidhi Naik (4-0, 4-0) to win the final.
Nathan Chowgule, President, Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA); Rajesh Khaunte, President, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Sunil Naik, Secretary, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias and Arjun Gadre, Owner Gadre Group, gave away the trophies to the winners at the award ceremony after the final.
