Top shotokan, karate contest on the cards

PANJIM: The World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (WSKF) will organise the 6th international camp and championship in Goa from January 29 to February 2 under the auspices of its Goa chapter headed by sensei Joseph Rodrigues at Campal and Taleigao.

Sensei Hitoshi Kasuya, former world champion, 8th dan black belt from Japan and chief instructor, World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation will be in Goa for the event.

The camp will see an overwhelming participation of over 700 students from across the State, India and other countries which include Iran, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Russia among others.

A training session will take place on January 29 and 31 at  Campal indoor stadium followed by the 3-day international championship on January 31, February 1 and 2 at Taleigao Community Centre in 20 categories.

The camp includes events such as kumite and is one of the three main sections of karate training along with kata and kihon.

Joseph, chief organiser, addressing a press conference, said, “We are happy to bring to Goa, a camp and international tournament of this stature. It will be a great learning experience for karate enthusiasts. It is a privilege to be trained under the guidance of master sensei Hitoshi.It is a golden opportunity for young karate enthusiasts and students to test their mettle at the international championship.”
