UC Nerul sail into finals

United Club of Nerul stormed into the finals of Fr. Chico Cup inter-village football tournament sponsored by Bayside Properties Private Limited getting the better of hosts Candolim Sports Club 4-2 via the tie-breaker after both the teams were involved in a goalless draw at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro stadium, Candolim on Tuesday.
Dominating the initial proceedings, Nerul could have forged ahead in the 6th minute through August Monteiro but defender Hari Diukar effected a goal-line save for Candolim.
Candolim fought back and could have taken the lead but Nerul keeper Siddesh Morje came to his side’s rescue saving a shot from Joelit. Thereafter, both teams fought well and could have scored on a couple of occasions but goalkeepers Bharat Morje (Candolim) and Siddesh Morje (Nerul) came to their sides’ rescue.
Newton Pereira, Denis D’souza, Agnelo Lobo and Charles Pereira converted for Nerul while Manuel Crasto and Sarvesh Kanekar were on target for Candolim.
