Landslide prone households have not responded to notices: Official

Although the district administration has alerted 20 households in Panjim against possible landslide, the residents have not bothered to respond back, said a senior officer.
On May 31, the North Goa sub divisional magistrate (SDM) has issued ‘vacate notices’ to about 20 households in areas threatened by landslides in and around the city.
“Last year too, we had sent the vacate notice but there was no response from the residence. Now they don’t react….when landslide occurs they are ready to blame us…,” SDM Sabaji Shetye said.
Shetye said that though the Public Work Department is trying their best to prevent landslide during heavy monsoon but as a precautionary measure and looking at the incidents of land slides over the last few years, we have decided to issue formal notices to the households located in the land slide areas.
“These twenty houses are mainly located in the vicinity of Altinho and Mala Basically these twenty houses have attached extensions to their structures, which are given out for rent and are likely to be affected,” he said. Altinho area is prone for landslide during monsoon.
