RAIA: Uguem Rising Club outsmarted United Sports Club of Seraulim 2-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 19th All Goa Guirdolim Panchayat Cup organised by Guirdolim Club at Chandor Church sports complex, on Friday.
The match started with USC Seraulim having a slight upper hand over Uguem RC. Hardworking medio Dickson Rogtao of USC Seraulim was at the centre of most moves and was ably supported by Melroy Pachecho and Prosen Mondal on the wings.
In the 25th minute, Prosen carried the ball on the right wing and whipped in a cross which was missed by Melroy with only the goalkeeper at his mercy. Uguem RC did not create any chances in the first session.
Changing ends, Uguem RC organised well and played the short passing game. USC Seraulim on the other hand tried long balls but both teams faltered in front of goal. Much against the run of play in the 51st minute, Rutik Bandodkar of Uguem RC took on three defenders of USC Seraulim dribbling past them and scored by placing the ball to the right of a diving USC Seraulim goalkeeper. USC Seraulim then pushed more bodies forward in search of an equaliser.
Melroy on the left did get an opportunity in the 53rd minute but delayed taking a shot and the ball was cleared safely. In the 54th minute, a long clearance by Uguem RC was not cleared by USC Seraulim defence with even the goalkeeper hesitating to leave his line and advance forward, Rutik who was lurking around took advantage and after rounding up the goalkeeper slotted home to complete his brace and seal the match for Uguem Rising Club.
