MARGAO: United Boys, Dando, Colva registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sporting Club of Davorlim to enter the semi-finals of 3rd Cana Benaulim Panchayat cup football tournament organized by St Sebastian Benaulim at St John Baptist ground, Dando Benaulim, Saturday.
Davorlim dominated the first session but could not score as they were left frustrated by Colva goalkeeper Joao Falcao.
In the second minute, goalkeeper Joao parried away a powerful close ranger from Davorlim’s Venson Figueiredo.
Subsequently, Davorlim came close to scoring but striker Paxton Gomes ballooned over and then Perryson Rebello’s effort was blocked the rival custodian.
After resumption, Colva took the fight to the rival camp with medio David Costa sending in clever through balls to strikers Joston Pereira and Jovisco Fernandes, who however could not finish.
With eight minutes to go for the final whistle, Colva finally broke the dead lock after lanky Jovisco timed his run to latch a through ball from Joston and placed the ball past Davorlim goalkeeper Rosefern Miranda for the match-winner with an adroit placement.
