MAPUSA/RAIA: Vasco SC managed to walk past Young Boys of Tonca by 3-1 margin in the GFA’s Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.
Both teams had a poor outing in their last GPL match saw Vasco SC colts take the field on a promising note, as they went into the breather with a three goals cushion.
In the 16th minute, Vasco SC’s striker Lalnunzama getting hold of a ball inside the penalty box drilled a power-packed right footer into the goal to make it 1-0.
Minutes later, Lalnunzama should have doubled the lead but his header sailed over the crossbar after Samuel D’Souza corner was paired by YBT custodian Sourav Chakraborty to Lalnunzama.
Port Towners further increased their lead with Ningthoujam Singh placing the ball to the far corner of the goal to double the lead, 2-0.
Vasco SC carried on their onslaught and pumped in the third goal through Ningthoujam who collected the ball from Lalnunzama and slotted the ball into the goal, 3-0.
On crossing over, play was mostly restricted to midfield. Young Boys of Tonca did come with some constructive moves where in the 80th minute a cross by Lucky Sabita was tapped into the goal by Irungbam Singh to make it 3-1.
Vasco SC’s Ningthoujam received the man-of-the-match award from Uday Lingudkar, GFA’s Executive Committee member. Vasco SC moved to six points from six games while YBT remained at the bottom with just one point from four matches.
At Nagao panchayat ground, FC Goa and Cortalim Villagers Social Welfare Sports Club played a goalless draw. FC Goa collected 11 points from six matches while Cortalim Villagers SWSC managed to collect five points from six matches.
