MARGAO: Verna Sports Club grounded Sporting Club Davorlim 6-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 34th Gold Silver Rolling Trophy Football tournament, organized by Navelim Sporting Club, at Navelim ground, on Sunday. In the first half, Verna SC were leading 2-0.
Verna SC dominated and took the lead in the sixth minute through Savio Fernandes off a penalty after a rival defender brought down Savio inside the danger zone.
Thereafter, Sporting Club Davorlim tried to bounce back but Paxton Carvalho’s long ranger was fisted away for a corner-kick by the rival goalkeeper.
However, Verna SC doubled their advantage as Savio unleashed a venomous strike in the 26th minute for his brace.
Crossing over, Verna SC increased their tally in the 40th minute through Savio off an assist by Abranches.
Stefin made it 5-0 in the 54th minute off an assist by hat-trick hero Savio.
Subsequently, Stefin secured his brace in the dying minutes.
