PANJIM: Nuvem Sports Club got better of Verna Sports Club 5-3, in the penalty shoot out to progress to the next round of the Nagoa Village Panchayat Cup 2014 organized by Pax of Nagoa Sports Club at Nagoa panchayat ground, on Wednesday.
The Verna boys dominated most of the first half and looked dangerously poised to take a lead but poor finishing let them down. The hard work of the Verna team paid dividends when in the 20th minute a Myron Fernandes pass helped Sanatan Rego score the first goal.
As game progressed, it looked as if the Verna boys would consolidate their lead with more goals but wayward shooting was the order of the day.
In the run up, the Nuvem boys had a chance to equalize when they were awarded a penalty as Verna’s defender handed the ball in side the area in the 25th minute, but Marcus Carvalho’s penalty shot was saved by Franky Abranches of Verna.
The Verna boys were leading 1-0 at the breather.
The second half saw the Nuvem boys play with renewed vigor and parity was restored in the 50th minute when Richard Fernandes scored for Nuvem.
In the ensuing penalty shootout, Agnelo Colaco, Clinton Colaco, Rayan Alvares, Alvito D’Costa and Rexon Quadros converted for Nuvem where as for Verna boys Manuel Moniz, Bazileo Rego and Vijal Rego scored.
Richard Fernandes of Nuvem Sports Club was adjudged Man of the mach.
