MAPUSA: Youth Club of Colvale registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Verem United Sports Club in the GFA’s 3rd Division-play-off (Bardez Zone), at Duler Stadium, here, on Saturday.
Colvale dominated a major part of the match where Colvale colts struck a goal in each session of play.
In the very fifth minute, Colvale’s Rio Fernandes sent a through pass to Shaik Sattari who beat the onrushing keeper Francis Fernandes with a neat placement to give his side the lead.
Play was then mostly restricted to midfield where finally in the 42nd minute a long throw-in by Verem’s Pramod was misjudged by the Colvale keeper and the ball came to the feet of Prakash who to the dismay of his teammates failed to tap the ball into the open goal.
On crossing over, Colvale time and again attacked the rival citadel to further increase their lead.
In the 55th minute a long ranger by Akash hit the Verem’s crossbar and the ball travelled to Sattyam who shot wide.
In the last ten minutes of the match, two more chances by Colvale went in vain.
In the 80th minute a long ball by Derrick was controlled by Shaikh who dribbled past a host of defenders but failed to get past the rival keeper.
Two minutes later, a power-packed volley ball Siddhant Sawant was acrobatically saved by Verem keeper Francis.
Finally in the added time, Colvale struck their second goal when a through pass by Siddhant was collected by Akash who scored with an adroit placement to make it 2-0.
YSC Colvale’s Akash Parwar received the man-of-the-match award from the hands of Bosco Monteiro former Sesa Goa player and the presence of GFA’s executive members Babli Mandrekar and Adv. Domnic Pereira.
