Colvekar: These are rumors. The fact is that MGP is working against BJP, as they want to go independent in the coming Assembly elections in 2017. BJP workers are working hard not just in Ponda but also in other constituencies to strengthen the party base. I don’t find anything wrong in it. Every party worker has a right to develop and strengthen his own party.
Herald: When you say MGP wants to go alone in future, what is the BJP take on it? Should BJP also go it alone?
Colvekar: There is already an understanding between both the parties – MGP and BJP – that they will continue their tie-up for at least 10 years. But, in the current situation, I along with my workers feel that BJP is strong enough to go it alone at the next election. But this is our individual wish. We will abide by the party’s decision always.
Herald: How good is the relationship between the MGP MLA and the BJP workers?
Colvekar: There seems to be no relationship at all. The local MLA is not at all co-operative. There is always a step-motherly treatment meted out to Ponda Municipal Council, which is controlled by BJP. We have to run to the Chief Minister or the Deputy Chief Minister to get PMC works done. Not just the MLA, but the two other MGP ministers are also of no use. They have done nothing for their own constituencies, nor for Ponda taluka overall.
