PANJIM: After O Heraldo highlighted the sorry state of affairs, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has announced its decision to renovate the Caranzalem Children’s Park, with the tender for the project likely to be issued by the end of next month.

A senior CCP official told O Heraldo, “The project is at the tendering stage, and we have already prepared estimates. The renovation will cost approximately Rs 2 crore and will be executed in phases. The works include replacing children’s play equipment, upgrading lights and bulbs, constructing a toilet, and replacing chairs and benches, among other improvements. If funds are secured, the work is expected to commence by the end of next month.”
The official added that a grant-in-aid of Rs 1 crore has been requested from the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA). “The remaining amount will be sourced from funds received under the 14th Finance Commission. These funds are already with the CCP, and we are awaiting permission to use them for this purpose,” the
official said.
The park, situated along the seashore, was once a well-maintained recreational space featuring swings, slides, open-air gyms, and a scenic view of the beach. It was a favourite spot for children and the elderly alike, known for its peaceful ambiance and picturesque architecture with elegant pillars.
However, the park has since fallen into disrepair. Children’s play equipment now lies broken and scattered, and the once-popular space has been neglected for over a decade. CCP sources admitted that no maintenance has been carried out at the park for the last ten years, leading to its current dilapidated state.
