PORVORIM: A group of residents from Corjuem-Aldona have objected to the construction of a mobile tower which is close to a high school.
In a letter to the block development officer, the residents claimed that the Aldona Deputy Sarpanch Charudatt Panjiker, who they allege is the contractor of the project, had started the work sometime in the first week of January.
“When our boys went there, they were chased away. We called the PA to the MLA Glen Ticlo and informed him about this development. He advised us to file a police complaint at the Aldona police outpost, which we did. But so far, no action has come,” the letter stated.
“The contractor is in such hurry that he undertakes work after 7 pm in darkness. We have even learnt that three-phase electricity connection has been given in a tearing hurry.”
Suspecting that the structure is being erected without valid documents from authorities, the residents have appealed to the BDO to stop the work till the Public Information Officer at the Aldona Panchayat provides answers to an applicant under the RTI.
When contacted, Panjiker insisted that the Aldona panchayat had given permission to the erection of the mobile tower.
“The mobile tower is close to a Hindu crematorium and there are fields in the area. There are no houses nearby and the school is about 500 metres away from the tower. The company has obtained all necessary legal permission from authorities concerned and hence, the panchayat had given its No Objection Certificate to the company to install the mobile tower,” said Panjiker.
