Siolim school students disturbed by hotels’ loud & untimely music

Complaints to panchayat and local police have fallen on deaf ears

SIOLIM: Parents, school heads and students of Shri Vasant Vidyalaya from Siolim have raised concern over the loud music which is allegedly being played by hotels and restaurants in Siolim that last throughout the night causing noise pollution.

The students have also written to the State Pollution Control Board complaining against the owners of the hotels and many other smaller tourist joints in the vicinity of the school seeking action against the pollution caused by the blaring music. 

Parents said that the loud music that starts at 6pm continues till 3 to 4 in the morning which adversely affects their children’s studies. 

The school management said that earlier the students had even written to Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority as well as the local panchayat and Anjuna police about the noise nuisance but till date no action has been forthcoming.

Parents and teachers demand that the authorities get the situation under control since the board exams are fast approaching.

In the letter, the students have highlighted that the hotel managements have been playing loud music beyond permissible limits and causing disturbance to such an extent that they are unable to concentrate on our studies. The volume and the beats of the music are so thundering that it affects the heart and ears adversely and it has created havoc in the locality.
