AMBELIM: Churchill Brothers defeated Club Sao Miguel Taleigao 1-0 in the GFA Goa Professional League match, at the Ambelim ground, on Monday.
Doyl D’Silva scored the match-winner for Churchill Brothers in the 87th minute.
Churchill Brothers dominated the opening five minutes of the match. However, it was CSM Taleigao team which made the first move of the match in the 8th minute. Octavio Miranda made a fine run down the right flank before laying an inch-perfect pass to Gautam Dias but the latter failed to give the final touch.
At the other end, Churchill Bros’ Doyl long range effort was fisted away by the rival keeper in the 15th minute.
In the 23rd minute, Octavio once again made the initial spade work before finding unmarked Gaurav, but the lad simply couldn’t control his shot on the target.
Minutes later, Sao Miguel finally got a shot on target as Gautam shot from the edge of the box was saved by the keeper.
In the 40th minute, Doyl found Basant Rai lurking in the rival box but the latter missed the target narrowly.
Crossing ends, the teams opted to play more in the midfield as both teams played defensively just keeping possession.
In the 66th minute, Taleigao Sherwin Lobo’s free-kick was easily saved by Churchill Bros keeper.
Churchill Brother finally broke the deadlock in the 87th minute when Basant Rai’s long trow in was failed to clear by the Taleigao defence and Doyl coolly tapped the ball past the help-less CSM Taleigao keeper.
In the very next minute, Taleigao missed a chance to equalise when Manuel Fernandes long range effort narrowly missed the target.
In the 90th minute, Doyl had a glorious opportunity to double the lead but his effort couldn’t beat the rival keeper.
