OLD GOA: Hundreds of locals took part in the first awareness programme on dry waste recycling, an initiative of the Corlim Panchayat in association with Syngenta Santa Monica Works, as efforts are on to tackle the waste in the village.
The technical support was provided by (VRecycle) a private waste management service and a pilot project will be initiated for one ward of Corlim, where only recyclable dry waste will be collected.
A handout was circulated explaining what dry waste will be collected and that wet waste would be tackled later, after 3 months trial of the pilot project at a different site.
The project aim is to have a clean village, free from dry waste, using a sustainable model that has cent collection compliance, which is environment friendly and assures almost 100% recycling of recyclable dry-waste.
Panch Dakshata Karapurkar explained to the people how they would like to collect only dry waste as mentioned on the handout.
Addressing locals, Clinton Vaz of V-recycle made a presentation how important it was to separate dry and wet waste. He stressed that segregation will help his labourers to work well in keeping the ward clean.
“As a pilot project, at the moment for the first three months we will try and collect only the dry waste from PDA Colony in Corlim for which we would like locals to help us to maintain cleanliness in the surrounding areas,” stated Vaz.
Meanwhile, Panch Victor Pereira urged all locals present to help the panchayat in making the project a success and expected PDA Colony to take the lead in keeping Corlim clean.
