MARGAO: A group of vigilant fishermen off the Mobor coast, Cavelossim, rescued a struggling sea turtle and handed it over to forest officials for treatment.
The fishermen, led by Jesus D’Costa and his son Leister, noticed the turtle in distress approximately 200 metres from the shore. The team promptly brought it ashore, administered basic first aid, and scraped off the barnacles that had accumulated on its body.
Leister explained that the turtle appeared exhausted from its ordeal in the sea. “When our team spotted the turtle, we immediately moved to rescue it. It seemed to be struggling, and after bringing it to the shore, we cleaned its shell,” he said.
Following the rescue, the matter was reported to the Forest Department. A team of officials soon arrived at the scene, took custody of the turtle, and transported it for further medical care.
