RAIA: Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club got better of Canacona Sports and Cultural Club 2-1 to book a spot in last eight in the ongoing 49th Chandor Seamen Football tournament played at Chandor ground, on Saturday.
Canacona SCC succeeded in opening the account in the 23rd minute through a power-packed shot from Yamnum Pirjar after capitalising from a long pass. But their joy was short-lived as Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club’s Ashwan Fernandes dribbled past the Canacona SCC defence to shoot into the net, catching the Canacona custodian off guard.
Both teams were tied at 1-1 at interval.
On resumption of play, both teams were desperately looking for the lead. Canacona SCC boys missed good one to one situations to score which would have given them a lead.
The Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club’s defence resisted Canacona SCC’s dangerous forays into their territory for good part of the second half. Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club’s lads made one dangerous move with swift passes that helped Savio Vales to place the ball easily into the rival net in the 54th minute giving them their winning tally.
Omkar Gaonkar of Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club was awarded the man-of-the-match.
