VASCO: In an unusual show of solidarity, media persons from the print and electronic media in Vasco on Monday filed a complaint with Vasco Police, complaining about a group of people claiming to be members of the International Press Community (IPC).
The police complaint states that the Vasco media persons have objected to the use of “Press” used by these persons, as it is misleading and a direct threat to the identity of media fraternity.
The police complaint further stated that the group of people were reportedly issuing press cards under their group, ‘International Press Community’.
In their police complaint, the media persons from Vasco recalled that the same group had convened a press conference in 2011, just before the 2012 assembly elections.
When confronted with tough questions, the group members beat a hasty retreat and have resurfaced after a gap of almost three years.
The media persons from Vasco have requested Vasco police to investigate the matter.
The controversy was sparked off when the IPC on Monday evening convened a press conference to announce a blood donation camp which was conducted at the Chicalim Cottage Hospital.
P S Pandey, who claimed to be the national president of PCI, informed media persons that they have been conducting various activities as an NGO.
When the media persons sought a justification for the use of “press” for their NGO, Pandey replied that since there are many members affiliated to various press sections, the association had used the word “press”.
When the media persons started questioning them further, Pandey along with other members of PCI left the news conference. This prompted the media persons to file a police complaint with the Vasco police.
