PORVORIM: Property worth Rs 20 lakh was destroyed in a fire at a warehouse in the industrial estate at Mapusa on Wednesday night.
According to Mapusa Fire station, they received a call at about 9.25 pm stating that fire broke out at the warehouse in the industrial estate at Mapusa. Senior Fire station officer, Dattaram Redkar, along with his staff and two fire tenders rushed to the spot. Later, two more fire tenders, one each from Panjim and Pilerne fire stations, were requisitioned.
The four fire tenders struggled for one-and-half hours and brought the flames under control at about 11 pm. Primary investigation has pegged the damage at Rs 20 lakh. About 9000 litres of liquor stored in 45 barrels, computer system, plastic chairs, ceiling fans, steel furniture, etc, were destroyed in the fire.
The staff had closed the warehouse at 8 pm and the fire personnel claimed that property worth Rs 75 lakh was saved. The cause of fire is not known, informed the fire officials.
