VASCO: The site inspection of proposed Mini India Park project which was supposed to be held on Friday was postponed without informing the panchayat.
Quelossim biodiversity committee chief Lopinho Xavier said that this is the second time that the site inspection was cancelled. “It looks like the authorities are under pressure from the government to help the proponent to avoid action of removing the mud illegally dumped in the khazan land under survey No170/0.”
He further said that at least four site inspections were conducted by GCZMA, two by Goa State Biodiversity Board in the last two and a half years and the report was prepared and action was recommended by the site inspecting team. “However, the illegally dumped mud is still lying in the khazan land,” Lopinho said.
Lopinho said that Friday’s inspection was called by Mormugao mamlatdar as the panchayat had filed a complaint before the GCZMA which was forwarded to the office of the South Goa collector. “Although the GCZMA conducted the site inspection; prepared its report and recorded its implications on the site, but till date no action is initiated to remove the mud,” he said.
He has urged the environment minister, director of environment and GCZMA member secretary to initiate action immediately and to restore the khazan land to its original position.
