PONDA: Eight persons were injured in a head-on collision between two cars proceeding in opposite direction at Patyekade Veling. One was proceeding to Doodamarg and the other to Panjim.
Two among them, who were seriously injured, were shifted to GMC Bambolim.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 5.30 pm on Sunday when a car driven by Sidhart Karapurkar along with members of Rainbow Warriors was proceeding towards Doodamarg was hit by another car driven by one Jayesh Jagdish Kamath who lost control of his car and went on the wrong side of the road and hit the oncoming car due to which the driver Sidhanth Karapurkar (51) and Alka Jagdish Kamath (68) were seriously injured. Besides, Diana Tavaris (45) of Loutolim and John Fernandes (79) of Benaulim, Rainbow Warriors members received injuries and were shifted to GMC.
The other occupant was Abijeet Prabudesai (52), Rainbow Warriors activist, from Navelim.
The occupants of the other car, Jayesh Jagdish Kamath, Nitya Jayesh Kamath (8) from Curti, Arthi Jayesh Kamath from Curti (35) were admitted to the Sub District Hospital and later discharged.
Jayesh was proceeding towards Ponda from Sakhlim along with his family.
The accident witnessed long queues of vehicles on Ponda-Panjim Highway.
Police conducted a panchanama and cleared the road.
