Herald: There is a huge task at hand. How do you think you can accomplish it?
Faleiro: There is no magic wand, but a magic formula. The work of reorganization is on. Unity and discipline is the magic formula. So I have organized a Chintan Shibir, announced a Dona Paula declaration, followed by a charge sheet and followed by a road map.
We have also formed various cells. Like the Congress NRI global Goans Department, the Leadership Training Department, and the Media Cell. We are also concentrating on strengthening the frontal organisations like the Seva Dal. In an endeavor to strengthen the organisation, we have planned organization of village meetings along with the booth committee at the grassroots level. Senior leaders will also fan out into the villages in the course of their organizational activities.
Also we are going to have the first convention of the legal cell to discuss the government’s amendment to the Tenancy Act and the Land Acquisition Act. We have started this and are going to continue.
Herald: How far do you think you have come since you too over the presidentship?
Faleiro: As of now 40 to 50 per cent of the organization has been put in place. I will and am backing those who are coming forward to make programmes. Also I have just written to all the senior office bearers and blocks to take up a membership drive, make booth level members concentrate on reorganization and to identify young leadership at block level. I have asked them to identify at least 10 young leaders in each block. Blocks have also been asked report to the PCC every month about the implementation of these various programmes.
Through these various processes, programmes and interactions, we hope to reinvent and revive the Party so as to make it relevant to the people. And until the 2017 elections, we will together build up the party so that it will provide a much needed robust and spirited opposition in the Legislative Assembly.
Herald: What do you feel is the most important and immediate need of the party?
Faleiro: We need youth to join. We need capable youth. I have asked the leadership at the block level to identify and get in youth. I am well aware what lies ahead of us is no easy task. My interactions with various party leaders in Goa have brought home very strongly the urgent need to bring about a sense of unity, discipline and consolidation in the party, at all levels.
As one of the tools to bring about greater communication and rapport within the party, we have begun releasing a periodic newsletter which we hope will serve as a vehicle for communication, and a platform for debate and discussion.
