MARGAO: The residents of Davorlim and surrounding areas have submitted an application to the district collector requesting construction of speed breakers on both the sides of the highway at Aquem Power House junction to facilitate vehicle crossing on Davorlim-Margao road that intersects the highway at the junction.
The residents have complained that without speed breakers it is very difficult to cross the highway at Aquem Power House junction due to speeding of vehicles; the junction has also witnessed a number of accidents.
The residents had previously written to the local panchayat, but no action whatsoever was taken by the local body.
The residents say that with every passing day, the power house junction is becoming increasingly dangerous for the Davorlim commuters to cross; not a single days passes by without a minor or major accident at the junction.
The residents allege that for over nine years, the departments concerned have been passing the buck on building speed breakers at the junction.
The PWD had earlier in 2015 promised to build speed breakers at all the junctions; but it wanted the panchayat to send such a proposal, which the panchayat has been most hesitant to do.
The speeding problem has been compounded by the parking of big trailers and truck on the bypass road going towards the Aquem side of the railway station, despite there being a prohibitory order on parking.
The locals also have given up on their demand for stationing traffic police at the junction as the department is understaffed.
