MAPUSA: Candolim Sports Club rallied to beat Holy Cross Arambol 3-1 and move into the semi-finals of 4th Milagres Cup football tournament organized by Milagres Sports Club, Mapusa at Bodgeshwar ground, Mapusa, Wednesday. Candolim led 2-1 at half time.
Arambol stunned their rivals in the sixth minute as they took the lead through Domnic Alfonso’s powerful strike that beat Candolim goalkeeper Marshal Simoes.
Candolim regrouped and equalized three minutes later, after Sagar Gaikonde bulged the rival nylons from inside the box.
Candolim took the lead at the half hour mark through a set piece. Manuel Crasto’s well-measured free-kick from the left flank sailed over the rival defenders and found Stanley D’Silva, who powerfully headed in past the rival custodian.
Just before half time, Arambol came close to leveling the scores after Sanket Ashvekar neatly shot past goalkeeper Marshall but Stanley came up with a timely clearance at the goal-line.
Changing over, Candolim continued to dictate terms as Sagar scored his second off a counter-attack. He made a promising run from the center to the rival territory and fired past the rival custodian.
