PONDA: The Ponda Citizens Group on Wednesday demanded that the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) curtail the enlarged commercial zones at the bus stand, Dada Vaidya Chowk and to protect green belt, identities of Ponda town in the Draft Outline Development Plan (ODP).

In a memorandum, the Ponda Citizens Group also having resource persons opposed the proposed 15-metre road alongside main nullah.
Discussions were held in the Ponda Municipal Council office in presence of Chairperson Shantaram Colvekar. The Citizens Group has demanded to conserve the heritage value of town in development process.
Ponda locals including Architect Kamlakar Saddle, Sunil Desai, Vinayak Nayak, Mario Coelho, Uday Dangi and others submitted a memorandum signed by them to the SGPDA officials.
They also pointed out that the commercial component is over-zoned not only in wetland but also on the interiors of Settlement Zones which is not the planning need but only to help the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) greed developers and other vested interest.
Ranajit Borkar, member secretary SGPDA said the Draft ODP is in planning stage and not finalised yet. The Citizens Group’s views would be considered.
He said after the Draft ODP is notified. It would be made available for public suggestions for period of 60 days for their suggestions and objections.
